A couple of friends embracing each other.

As I go from city to city from week to week spreading the good news about inclusion, I am so often gratified by the goodness of everyday people. In a world where 90% of the news is negative, disheartening, and often tragic, it is important to stop sometimes to reflect on those small acts of civility, generosity, and compassion that warm our hearts and lift our spirits.

I want to Buzz about 10 recent acts of kindness that I have personally experienced, offered to someone else, or heard about on the news and I invite you to do the same. Spread some good news!

RAK 1:  Last week, a woman in line behind me in the ladies’ room was with a small child who really looked like she needed to go worse than I did, so I let them go ahead of me. The smile on that mother’s face and the gratitude made my day.

RAK 2: In light of the number of families affected by the ICE Raids in Mississippi, St. Anne Catholic Church opened its doors to people in need of legal advice, hot meals, or counseling led by a social worker or child psychologist.

RAK 3: On the local news, I recently heard about a single mother whose car was carjacked and she depended on this transportation for school and work.  A group of local police officers got together and purchased a new car for her. Tears of joy streamed from her face.

RAK 4: (Maybe not so random) but The Winters Group just granted $50,000 to 12 organizations as a part of our Live Inclusively Actualized corporate social responsibility program.

RAK 5: A compassionate mom from Arkansas bought out the entire stock (1,500 pairs of shoes!) of a closing shoe store so she could donate them to people in need.

RAK 6: Due to extenuating circumstances, a caregiver I hired to care for my significant other was not able to work all her scheduled hours. I paid her the full amount anyway.

RAK 7: A good friend sent me a card just to say she was thinking of me.

RAK 8: Almost every time I travel by plane, a person will ask if they can help me put my bag in the overhead. I so appreciate this because I have a chronic back problem.

RAK 9: Leigh Morrison, Manager of Learning and Innovation at The Winters Group, recently bought groceries for a mother that she encountered in a store parking lot.

RAK 10: Thamara Subramanian, Manager of Learning and Innovation at The Winters Group, had accidentally left her wallet in the airport bathroom but had ordered her coffee already. She was about to cancel the order, but the airplane pilot behind her noticed how long the line was and paid for her beverage.
